Common triggering factors include post-delivery, medical diseases, post major surgery or massive haemorrhage, anorexic or high fever condition, also some prescriptive medication can also lead to this condition.

It involves mid-scalp and crown area resulting detectable thinning to the affected area and can affect more than 50% of the scalp.

Telogen Effluvium can be either acute or chronic.

Acute telogen effluvium usually has a clear triggering factor while chronic telogen effluvium lasting for more than 6 months may not have a definite triggering factor. This condition can create tremendous psychological stress to sufferers especially when they see massive hair shedded after showing and hair brushing.
