Male Pattern Hair Loss / Androgenetic Alopecia

Male Pattern Hair Loss (MPHL), also known as Androgenetic Alopecia, is a hereditary condition affecting scalp hair follicles leading to premature follicular degeneration.

It mostly occurs after puberty and started affecting frontal hairline, then gradullay progress to affect the mid-scalp and crown area sparing temple and back of head area.

It is due to Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) which inhibits the normal growing (anagen) phase of scalp hair follicles and resulted progressive shrinking down of hair follicles. The condition will usually stabilize around the age of 50 owing to reduced level of DHT.

MPHL is a clinical diagnosis, with neither clinical symptom nor laboratory confirmation.

    Bio-Cleansing Shampoo

Bio-Cleansing Shampoo can remove excessive sebum and DHT level on scalp skin and it helps to facilitate the effect of other hair treatment.

  • Finasteride Oral Medication

    Finasteride Oral Medication

Finasteride is the only FDA approved oral medication for treatment of androgenetic alopecia (Male Pattern Hair Loss). Once daily 1mg tablet has shown good result to prevent or slow down progression of androgenetic alopecia, 2/3 of patients taking the medication has shown significant improvement, especially hair density, some take almost 2 years to reach the optimum therapeutic effect. It works better for the mid-scalp / crown area than frontal hairline. If started early, the result will be even more obvious.1.4% patients may experience transient adverse effects, including reduced sex drive, erectile dysfunction and reduced ejaculant (not affect sperm count and its motility). These adverse effects are temporary and reversible, normally they will disappear if continued the medication for longer time. If patients really cannot tolerate the side effects, they can simply stop the medication and the adverse effects will disappear.

  • FUE Hair Transplant

    FUE Hair Transplant

Hair transplant has been considered as an effective surgical intervention to treat hair loss problem. It is an autologous tissue transplant by using the donor hair follicles (from back of head) which are less affected by dihydrotestosterone (DHT), then move to bald or thinning area on scalp (recipient site). It has mostly used to treat receded frontal hairline, mid-scalp thinning or even crown baldness.

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE), also known as minimal invasive hair transplant, is a modified donor harvesting method. Each individual follicle will be extracted under local anesthesia, and the wound at the extraction will be around 1mm in diameter which will close without suturing.

Same as FUT, newly implanted hair at the recipient site will shed 1 week after surgery, and the swelling after surgery will subside within few days depending on size of the surgical session. Comparing with FUT, donor site of FUE heals faster and its biggest advantage over FUT is that it will not leave behind a long fine linear incisional line over the back of head. However, the density of donor site will be greatly reduced with each subsequent FUE session, bigger the FUE session, thinner the donor site will be.

Although hair transplant can fix the appearance resulted from hereditary hair loss, however it will not be able to stabilize the progressive deterioration to the remaining areas. Therefore, it is necessary to start before or at the same time the prescriptive medicine from doctors to stabilize the condition. It is said that the number of hair follicles required for transplant may vary individually subjected to the degree of hair thinning at time of presentation, also the density of donor hair follicles, scalp elasticity, hair texture, previous surgery and different in expectations. The hair grafts survival rate stays around 80-90% and will mostly continue their hair growth cycle, however hair growth cycle, density and even colouration may deteriorate gradually with years and this is just a normal physiological ageing process.

    FUT Hair Transplant

It has mostly used to treat receded frontal hairline, mid-scalp thinning or even crown baldness.

For FUT, an area will be measured and marked out at the back of head and a strip of skin containing hair follicles will be removed, the wound will then be approximated on each edge and closed with Trichophytic Closure Method which will enable the resultant scar unnoticeable. Then nursing staff will dissect the harvested strip of skin with care under power microscope, to each individual follicular units containing either 1 hair, 2 hairs or 3 hairs, then these dissected follicular units will be implanted to the recipient site, namely frontal hairline, mid-scalp and crown area.

Same as FUE, newly implanted hair at the recipient site will shed 1 week after surgery, and the swelling after surgery will subside within few days depending on size of the surgical session. The wound closed at the donor required suture removal at about 10 days after the surgery.

  • Hair Essence Supplement

    Hair Essence Supplement

It has always been a great challenge when facing female hair loss or hair thinning, regardless the causes being hereditary or acquired. Not all female patients having hair loss problem are good candidate for hair transplant surgery, even so they may experience severe transient shock loss after the surgery. Hair Essence Supplement provides important ingredients for healthy hair shaft and accelerate hair growth, and is considered as a safe treatment options for those with diffuse hair loss, telogen effluvium especially after giving birth. It should be taken for 3 to 6 months as a cycle, then they can repeat the same after 3 months stopping.

  • Hair Fibers Powder

    Hair Fibers Powder

Hair fiber powder is made up of keratin which is a substance similar to the normal structure of hair shaft. These particles have the size of 0.3-0.5mm. They are inert to scalp, not blocking the follicular orifices. They electrostatically adhere to the hair shaft or on the surface of scalp skin, can visually create a thickening effect. More importantly, these powder particles would not stain the white colour shirt or pillow case, and can be washed out easily just rinsing the head with shower water.

  • Hair ReVitalizing Therapy

    Hair ReVitalizing Therapy

Making use of revitalizing and anti-DHT capacity from ReVitalizing Factors (RF) extracted from selected organic plants can reactivate the Follicular Sebaceous Bulge Area containing population of stem cells which can strengthen follicular papilla to produce hair. Combining various ReVitalizing Factors can achieve synergistic effect on follicular rejvenation and revilatization, dosage of various RFs will be customized and subjected to each individual candidate for different underlying causes of hair issues.

  • Infra-Red Laser Comb (Home Use)

    Infra-Red Laser Comb (Home Use)

Infra-Red laser therapy has been cleared by FDA as in safe to be used as home apparatus to improve hair thinning, the wavelength of the laser is at 660 with strength of energy ranging from 30 to 500 mWatt.

The mechanism of how it helps hair thinning is via improving micro-circulation to scalp skin which is important for better nutrients delivered for follicular proliferation, also helps to remove biological wastes from the follicular dermal papilla. Also, low lever energy can generate ATP which is important for follicular metabolism and normal hair growth cycle.

  • Minoxidil Foam Topical Medication

    Minoxidil Foam Topical Medication

Topical Minoxidil is the FDA approved for treating hereditary androgenetic alopecia, however it has not shown to reverse follicular miniaturization. But it has vessel dilation effect and can improve micro-circulation of the hair follicle. Moreover, it can prolong the anagen (growing) phase of hair follicles by shortening their telogen (shedding) phase.

Patients must use it continuously in order to maintain the desirable results. Once they stop using Minoxidil, the hair will resume their normal growth cycle, shedding may follow.

Some patients will notice more hair shedding for 2-8 weeks while they first started using Topical Minoxidil, this phenomenon is transient.
